Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Balance product design and manufacturing technology for cost efficiency.

  • Implement modulization and DFM through LeanPD process.

  • Provide design-for-manufacturability inputs on new product designs.

  • Drive new technologies to improve operations efficiency and productivity, ensuring quality.

  • Plan, execute, and finalize manufacturing projects on time.

  • Coordinate team efforts to meet project goals.

  • Establish and communicate Bill of Process (BoP) and Bill of Equipment (BoE) standards.

  • Identify sources and provide cost estimates for new tools.

  • Work with engineers on purchase specifications and track tooling expenses.

  • Participate in design reviews and FMEAs to ensure manufacturing reliability.

  • Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with tooling acceptance requirements.

  • Prepare production materials and arrange for prototype sample production.

  • Track initial production metrics and resolve issues to meet customer needs.

  • Support the transfer of production processes to international sites.

  • Seek opportunities to re-engineer obsolete tools and machines for new applications.

  • Apply pollution prevention and design-for-environment principles in process development.

What your background should look like:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Production Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation.

  • Lean Six Sigma or Design for Six Sigma Green/Black Belt preferred.

  • 10+ years in a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of tooling/mold design, automated assembly machines, and their costs and lead times.

  • Familiarity with tool/mold making, tool-steel selection, and heat treatment processes.

  • Experience with Vision Inspection, PLCs, pneumatics, sensors, motors, and motion control devices preferred.

  • Background in semiconductor, connector, or cable automated systems/equipment development is a plus.

Skills:

  • Understanding of engineering practices and tolerances for fabrication, machining, grinding, stamping, cold forming, wire-cut, and EDM.

  • Ability to conduct and interpret process capability studies.

  • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making using statistical analysis.

  • Strong self-motivation, teamwork, and communication skills in English.

  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.

  • Familiarity with Pro-E, SolidWorks, or AUTOCAD.
