Clean Harbors Facility Operations Manager II in Buttonwillow, California

Summary

The Facility Operations Manager II is responsible for overseeing and managing all plant operations, including but not limited to drum dumping, drum sampling and testing, bulk scale staff, bulk sampling and testing and implementation of the waste analysis plan This role requires strong leadership and operational expertise to ensure smooth and efficient facility management.

Salary: $91,356 to $137,034

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

The Facility Operations Manager II oversees and manages multiple areas and shifts within the facility, providing leadership and guidance to Lab Supervisors, Foremen, and plant/drum staff. This role works closely with the General Manager to develop and enhance facility throughput and overall operations. Personnel responsibilities include hiring, termination, and employee development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

The manager ensures that employees follow all applicable Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and holds them accountable for compliance. Additionally, this role requires ownership and maintenance of permit-required compliance standards and the development of daily production goals to ensure execution across multiple groups.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary to meet operational requirements.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field is required, along with 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in plant operations and leadership. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Certificates and Licenses

DOT training is required for this role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Experience in plant operations such as drum pumping, drum dumping, tank farm operations, truck offloading/loading, wastewater treatment, and fuels blending is essential. Proficiency with site-specific SOPs and the ability to score satisfactorily on related assessments are also required.

Travel

This role requires less than 10% travel.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Facility Operations Manager II has supervisory authority over hiring, training, scheduling, and performance appraisals. The role also includes recommending promotions, compensation adjustments, corrective actions, and terminations.

Physical Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary position with occasional walking and standing. The manager is expected to sit for 6 to 8 hours daily and perform tasks such as reaching and using computers consistently throughout the workday. Lifting or carrying requirements are minimal, with weights typically not exceeding 10 pounds.

The work environment may require occasional bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing. The role also demands visual acuity for close work, such as reading and computer use, as well as the ability to distinguish colors. A respirator fit test is required.

Vision and Hearing Requirements

This role requires near visual acuity, the ability to distinguish colors, and adequate hearing to communicate effectively via telephone and web conferencing. The ability to tolerate loud environments is not required.
