Job Summary/Overall Objectives

Maintains leadership responsibilities for the invasive and non-invasive cardiology departments within the Independence Health System. In addition, individual may have responsibility for interventional radiology. Appropriately manages human resources activities, manages fiscal and budgetary responsibility, and assures adherence to accrediting and regulatory guidelines. Participates in strategic planning for the Service Line and executes on new product and service line development within areas of responsibility. Collaborates with VP on programmatic growth and market development.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • The position is responsible for leading the department and accountable for the Heart Center.

  • This position has direct supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, coaching/mentoring, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity, performance management and succession planning.

  • Equitably and consistently apply and practice policies and procedures for all staff.

  • Develop and manage department budget at or below budget expectations and consistent with adjusted volume variations.

  • Identify and implement revenue enhancement opportunities.

  • Support the execution of company strategy across business segments to optimize experience and results.

  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment; assure staff comply with safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines.

  • Improve HCAP scores according to fiscal year targets; demonstrate year after year improvement in service to internal and external customers

  • Service Line Development

  • Investigates opportunities for integration of new technologies within the scope of the Heart Center and when applicable in interventional radiology services.

  • Directs and coordinates cardiac and IR care where applicable with operational managers in the OR/ICU/CCU/PCU as well as any other operational areas.

  • Develops relationships to stimulate clinical collaboration within Independence Health System with providers, staff, vendors and other community resources.

  • Explores and analyzes new procedure techniques for integration into existing programs.

  • Develops and maintains budget control and responsibility; finds cost-effective solutions.

  • Plans, controls and coordinates change and new program growth.

  • Serves as director of non-invasive and invasive cardiology services and IR when applicable. Directs and coordinates all aspects of patient care working with operations directors and managers to enhance service, care and quality.

  • Provide Quality Oversight to Service Line

  • Plans and implements service line specific quality metrics

  • Responsible for compliance with identified certification and accrediting standards as identified as a priority by the organization.

  • Actively participates in establishing quality goals and metrics including but not limited to those required by external agencies necessary for payment or certification / accreditation.

  • Collaborates with the Quality Department on the use of registries relative to the service line, including STSS / ACC and other required or optional service registries.

  • Responsible for utilizing quality data to drive improvements in conjunction with providers within areas of responsibility.

  • Collaborates with performance improvement division and medical staff leadership to develop and implement means to effectively address quality issues.

  • Utilizes quality / safety data to drive process improvements in conjunction with identified dyad physician partners.

  • Stimulates team approach and collaborative patient focused improvement initiatives throughout service lines.

  • Allocates and delegates work to make efficient use of all resources.

  • Establishes staffing patterns according to the department scope of service and budgetary guidelines.

  • Establishes clear work objectives and standards to prioritize and focus staff efforts.

  • Establishes safety policies and procedures for the operation of equipment and service delivery practice in compliance with regulatory and organization guidelines.

  • Assure completion of staff competencies including mandatory education and programs relative to job specific criteria.

  • Collaborates with others in the delivery of services and the use of resources

  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Associate’s degree or higher in related field and five (5) years of of hospital-based cardiology or related services experience.

  • Five (5+) years supervisory/management experience in a leadership position with responsibility for finances, quality and human resources..

  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of functional area.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in nursing, health, business, or leadership field

  • Experience in Healthcare setting.

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania

  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).

  • Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
