Caterpillar’s Integrated Components and Solutions Division is currently seeking a Mining Technology Product Engineering Manager for Caterpillar’s Underground Mining Technology products. As the engineering manager, you will be accountable for the leadership of the technical team responsible for the engineering to support the Command for Underground product lines as well as our staffed underground mining technologies; including both new product development and product support and maintenance. This role is directly responsible for delivering technical outcomes in support of new product development, product enhancement, product maintenance, product support, and product innovation. The leader in this role will be expected to establish goals for the team that deliver towards the department goals and product strategy.

In this position you will have a team of direct reports who function as technical leads supporting NPI (New Product Introduction) bringing all engineering work together to deliver the technical aspect of the program. The Technical leads bring the engineering development together leveraging engineering teams in partner organizations. These delivery teams span across multiple different organizations and deliver both software and hardware product. As engineering manager, you are ultimately responsible for the delivery of all of these teams to meet product objectives, schedules, and quality targets.

This position is also responsible to provide technical support to customers, the Command operations team and product support. There are frequent and regular interactions with customers and end users. The engineering manager must be able to build relationships and partnerships with site operations teams and customers in order to provide exceptional service. Serving the operations team and customers well is what provides best in class value for underground mining technologies.

The incumbent must have strong technical and analytical skills, good communication and project management skills, a broad technical knowledge base, strong engineering judgement, and demonstrated team leadership skills. The incumbent must have relevant experience in Caterpillar’s product development processes.

What you will do:

  • Manages and coordinates technical feasibility assessment, planning, design optimization, costs/schedule management, risk assessment/mitigation, project communication and on-going production support.

  • Promotes and fosters strong partnerships with partner organizations internal to Caterpillar and with suppliers external to Caterpillar.

  • Provides leadership and performance management to product development engineering staff and monitors product development and production processes and activities.

  • Develops department goals for quality, reliability, scheduling and support; monitors projects to help product development team meet goals.

  • Leading Product Improvement projects.

  • Communicating globally with customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units

  • Providing guidance and oversite for product analysis and validation.

Education and Experience requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • Relevant Caterpillar product design or mining technology development experience

  • Proven team leadership experience

  • Proven experience executing projects requiring in depth technical analysis or applying analytical processes to solution development.

  • Demonstrated problem solving capability.

  • Demonstrated record of self-directed work.

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Work Experience on Caterpillar Mining Technologies design, development, or validation.

  • Caterpillar Product Development Experience - NPI process / leadership experience

  • Experience with application of automation and information technologies to machines

Additional Information:

  • The primary location for this position is Bibra Lake (Perth), Western Australia

  • This position may require 30% travel
