Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently looking for an Intermediate Cost Control person to be part of our team on a permanent full-time position. Reporting to the program controls manager, the cost control person will provide the program manager and project managers with viable information for effective management and cost control of the various projects and will be accountable for implementing robust processes, checks and balances to determine Budget, Actual Cost and Estimate at Completion

The Cost controller must demonstrate an aptitude for efficiency, problem solving, and resourcefulness with a deep commitment to the Program goals.

Your Key Responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Support the preparation of monthly cost control and project progress reports, cost variance analysis reports, change logs, and dashboards, based on established standardized criteria in terms of content and presentation (budgets, commitments, changes, variances, performances), and according to the approved work breakdown structure.

  • Ensure regular communication with project team and other stakeholders regarding program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), current budget, actual cost and forecast to complete.

  • Control and check the program invoices and follow up on approval and payment. Work with the accounting department to ensure alignment/balance with financial statements and other financial reports.

  • Issue Purchase Orders and Subconsultant agreements and change orders and maintain an agreement and change log.

  • Review and process all Subconsultant Invoices and assist Consultants with any compliance issues

  • Work with the project team on contract budgets, progress payments, invoicing processes, contract amendments and closeout.

  • Provide the technical support to all contractors to ensure the project cost control systems and processes are maintained to program standards.

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, Provincial, and local regulations, particularly applicable funding agreement requirements.

  • Other related duties assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • In-depth knowledge of project finance and contract administration obtained through experience and education.

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint and Power BI)

  • Strong analytical skills to review cost control information and ensure accuracy as well as identify issues, concerns, and potential mitigations.

  • Excellent time management skills detail oriented and resourceful. Must be able to successfully work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships and credibility with professionals at any level in the organization.

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in project cost control on large projects (design and construction experience preferred)

  • Diploma or Project Management certificate, or PMP.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $63,200/BC Other Areas $59,600 - Lower Mainland $91,600/BC Other Areas $86,400 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
