Senior Operations LLC Design Drafter (Contract) in Burbank, California

What does the job involve?

Summary:

To prepare 3D models and drawings using Catia V5 R21 to R2018. Performs checking functions and can coordinate designs with both project and manufacturing engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following and all other duties as may be assigned. Individuals must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions as listed:

  • Knowledgeable of Catia V5 as it relates to company design needs.
  • Skilled in all facets of 3D modeling in Catia V5. Should be at an expert level in creating sketch-based solids and geometric surfacing.
  • Creates complex and simple detail, sub-assembly, and top assembly drawings.
  • Writes engineering orders and makes changes to existing drawings.
  • Creates assemblies and drawings for test procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in ACS (aircraft coordinate systems) and can design components using ACS or local coordinates.
  • Knowledge of MBD (Model Based Definition) and its applications in the aerospace engineering environment and documentation.
  • Performs weight calculations (hand or Catia V5).
  • Performs design checks of models and drawings created by other drafters.
  • Strong understanding of GDandT practices per ASME and ANSI standards.
  • Manufacturing knowledge in the machining of metallic components and sheet metal forming.
  • Creates tooling models and drawings.
  • Aids the shop, customers, and vendors in reading and interpreting company and customer drawings to facilitate manufacturing.
  • Develop assembly BOMs.
  • Experience with PLM software (Enovia) and configuration management practice preferred.
  • Performs tolerance stack-ups and interference checks as needed.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Requires high school or vocational school graduate with courses in Mechanical Drafting, Algebra, and Trigonometry. Three years minimum aerospace design and drafting experience required. Minimum of 10,000 hours working directly with Catia V5. Catia V5 courses are strongly desired. Manufacturing knowledge is a plus.

Must understand engineering drawings. Must have a working knowledge of shop operations and processes to aid in clarifying drawings. Ability to analyze figures, results, or complex data to determine the logical solution to a drafting problem. To be responsible for high clerical accuracy and moderate factual dependability in assembling and presenting data.

Language Skills: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must have the ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, technical documents and drawings, policies, procedures, etc.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written, and oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving many variables in various situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to effectively multi-task and quickly change from task to task. Must be a detail-orientated, self-administrator able to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used: Must be proficient in operating CAD (Catia V5), and MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as email.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The job duties described above are mainly performed within an office environment and occasionally on the shop manufacturing floor, which contains various environmental conditions such as exposure to industrial machinery, dust/metallic particles, and noise.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety glasses are always required while on the shop floor. Steel-toed shoes and other PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) are required if the employee must enter designated shop floor work areas.
