Summary:
The Supervisor, Health Information oversees and supervises the daily operations of the clerical staff and the release of information of the facility. The Supervisor participates in the planning, coordination and staffing of Health Information sites. The Supervisor is responsible to ensure adherence to department, hospital and Catholic Health policies. The Supervisor maintains electronic medical integrity through the supervision of timely and accurate prepping, scanning, and analyzing of medical records into the document imaging system. The Supervisor audits pages and verifies that proper patient identification on each page and proper prepping and scanning methods for accurate indexing into the imaging system has been maintained. Performs education and support for the above.
Evaluates the medical record for completeness of documentation in accordance with state, JCAHO, federal regulation; medical staff bylaws/rules and regulations; hospital policy and compliance requirements. Is prepared to meet with JCAHO during surveys.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
Associate's degree in health related field
Associate's degree in Health Information Technology preferred
Medical terminology course required
In lieu of an Associate's degree, a candidate with at least three (3) years of Health Information department experience and medical terminology may be considered
Certification as a RHIT is preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Six (6) months experience in a Health Information department is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
Visual acuity to read and assist with physician documentation in the medical record to distinguish completeness
Ability to perform computer functions in a Microsoft Windows environment
Must have good verbal, written, and computer communication skills, and ability to navigate the Internet
Must demonstrate the ability to be detail-oriented and perform tasks at a high rate of accuracy
Proficient with computers and keyboarding skills
Must be able to type at or above the rate of 45 wpm
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to utilize all types of media: electronic health record, paper and microfilm is preferred
Must successfully pass medical terminology test
Strong organizational and time management skills; as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Understands and maintains the confidential nature of information handled and discussed
Ability to apply judgment independently, and prioritize tasks
WORKING CONDITIONS
Individual works in an office setting using both paper and electronic medical records and computers to perform duties
Occasional travel to department storage areas
Must be able to travel between Catholic Health facilities when required
Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs
