CTG Software Engineer III in Buffalo, New York

Location: Hybrid – 3 days onsite at Buffalo, NY

Duration: 18 Months

Overview:

Our client, a leading banking institution, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer III with a strong background in commercial loans, banking, and technical systems. This role will focus on supporting large-scale projects, specifically related to the AFS System Level III or AFS Vision, within the commercial banking environment. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience, a proven track record of leading teams, and the ability to work autonomously and manage complex tasks from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts within the commercial banking space, focusing on commercial loans and related systems.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for large projects.

  • Provide subject-matter expertise in AFS System Level III or AFS Vision, and offer technical insights to ensure smooth project execution.

  • Drive project success through effective communication, coordination, and leadership, ensuring that milestones are met on time.

  • Ensure requirements are met by aligning project objectives with business goals, and provide leadership to drive project deliverables.

  • Work independently and be a self-starter, taking ownership of tasks and leading initiatives from conception to completion.

  • Work in an Agile environment, collaborating closely with stakeholders and team members to iterate on deliverables.

  • Demonstrate leadership in guiding a team and managing relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical and business-related issues, providing actionable solutions as needed.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, with a focus on commercial loans and banking systems.

  • Strong understanding of the banking environment, with a deep understanding of commercial lending processes.

  • Expertise with AFS System Level III or AFS Vision; if not, significant experience with similar banking systems is required.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and guide teams in complex, high-stakes projects.

  • Solid analytical and technical skills, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Ability to thrive in an Agile environment, managing multiple priorities and ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of stakeholders.

  • A self-motivated and proactive individual who can work independently, manage priorities, and drive results with minimal supervision.

  • Mainframe COBOL/CICS Developer Preferred skills - Banking and Lending Experience (Commercial)

  • CA7 - Mainframe: TSO, SPF, JCL, Cobol, Easytrieve, SAS, CA7 job scheduling, Xpediter debugging environment, Panvalet, SORT

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of banking regulations and compliance, particularly as they relate to commercial loans.

  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring capacity within the Business Analyst field

  • Candidate must be able to cross-functions from development/engineering to what was more historically BA functions such as facilitating meetings and communications with vendors and business partners

  • Commercial Loan UAT/support

Highly Desired Skills:

  • M&T Technology and development experience

  • Commercial Lending experience

  • Experience with supporting and developing on the AFS Level III Commercial Loans System.

  • Overall Banking Technical Experience

  • Ability to lead and perform requirements analysis

  • General knowledge of how infrastructure works

  • Programming: Java/JavaScript/.NET

  • Database: Oracle/MSSQL/ETL

  • API Development, REST API Web Services

  • CI/CD: VeraCode

  • Cloud concepts: Containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift

  • Dynatrace

  • Git, Gitlab, DevOps, YAML
