The Senior Research Scientist- Assay Development & High Throughput Screening in Buffalo is an integral part of the team, contributing to our success towards assay development, target characterization, screening and lead optimization for client-based projects and internal development projects by applying a strong scientific background in biochemistry, enzymology, biophysical or cell biology with a focus on pre-clinical drug discovery.

Join a team of highly skilled scientist and work in a fast-paced customer focused environment to conduct research in support of discovering and advancing new drug candidates. Build on your education and experience by developing practical knowledge and skills under the mentorship of skilled scientist and learn to operate state of the art instrumentation for 384 and 1536 well plate-based biochemical or cellular assays using a wide variety of detection techniques such as absorbance, time resolved fluorescence, and mass spectrometry. Utilize SPR and other biophysical techniques for biomolecule interaction binding studies.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to pre-clinical Drug Discovery research projects.

  • Independently design and execute experiments to develop and validate assays and techniques for bioactivity screening and their transfer to robotic systems for high throughput screening.

  • Compose research plans and budgets, execute experiments, and deliver project results to clients.

  • Help identify new techniques and methods based on current literature and technological advancements, investigate and develop market potential for new technologies and potential for return on investments of required capital equipment, implement new technologies demonstrating fit for purpose, equality or superiority vs standard techniques with case studies to present to potential customers.

  • Independently develop and test automated procedures for high throughput and secondary screening of sample collections and generation of high quality screening data.

  • Provide analysis, interpretation and presentation to customers the results of assay development experiments, screening and potency testing.

  • Mentor or supervise other scientific staff and lead customer project teams.

  • Develop and effectively apply a broad spectrum of practical laboratory skills; including molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, assay development, in depth analysis of bioactivity data and the use of automated equipment. Evaluate new instrumentation and techniques include cost benefit analysis for new customer opportunities.

  • Effectively utilize standard laboratory equipment including hand pipettes, balances, pH meters, plate readers and calculators.

Education and/or Experience

Required

  • PhD in Biology or Biochemistry with 2 years post-Doctoral experience or BS/MS with equivalent experience and leadership.

Preferred

  • PhD with 2 years or BS/MS with 8-12 years of commercial laboratory experience demonstrating independence in conducting molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, assay development and validation, and drug candidate screening.

  • Experience with biophysical (SPR/Biacore) method development and testing.

  • Experience conducting biochemical assay development (enzymology and biomolecular binding studies) and testing.

Pay Range: $79,000/yr.

Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
