Position Summary:

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/departments/physiology.html) has an exciting new opportunity for a Research Scholar opening. Our group seeks highly motivated personnel to engage in neuroscience research at the laboratory of SUNY Distinguished Professor Dr. Zhen Yan. The main aim of Yan laboratory is to elucidate the epigenetic and synaptic mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and able to:

  • Contribute to existing projects as well as to lead new research projects.

  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

  • Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, and train other lab members as needed.

  • Communicate study results in conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Neuroscience, Biology or related discipline.

  • Experience working as part of a team in an academic research laboratory.

  • Computer skills for data analyses.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently.

  • Willing to work extra hours if needed.

  • Desire and ability to learn new skills quickly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience in molecular, cellular and behavioral neuroscience is highly preferred.

  • Other preferred characteristics include: excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong publication record, proven ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a cross-functional team and the ability to effectively plan and organize work activities, and prioritize task completion to meet schedules and deadlines.
