The Opportunity:
As a Materials Innovation Engineer, you will be a key player in our R&D team, spearheading the development of next-generation textile materials and processes. You'll have the opportunity to:
Innovate: Conduct research to develop novel and enhanced chemical manufacturing processes for textiles, exploring exciting new materials and technologies.
Design & Develop: Design and formulate complex chemical products, contributing to the creation of high-performance synthetic rubber, plastics, polymers, and thermoplastic compounds for textile applications.
Collaborate: Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance to bring innovative textile products from concept to market, influencing product feasibility and development timelines.
Solve Real-World Problems: Partner with sales engineers to understand customer needs and develop tailored product/service solutions, directly impacting customer satisfaction and business growth.
Be a Materials Expert: Utilize advanced analysis and testing techniques to characterize materials, ensuring the quality and performance of our textile products.
Drive Sustainability: Research and incorporate 'Green' materials, processes, and equipment wherever possible, contributing to our commitment to environmental responsibility.

What You'll Do:
Conduct research to develop complex, new, and improved chemical manufacturing processes.
Research, design, and develop tools, engines, machines, controls, equipment, and mechanical processes.
Design and formulate complex chemical products such as synthetic rubber, plastics, polymers, and thermoplastic compounds.
Coordinate R&D efforts with Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance regarding product feasibility and time frames for product development.
Review customers' technical needs and assist sales engineers in developing specific product/service solutions.
Choose and implement analysis and testing techniques used in the test characterization of materials.
Coordinate physical testing and evaluation of raw materials and finished products to establish comprehensive new product specifications.
Develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-effective manner.
Review and make recommendations regarding suppliers’ proposals for process improvements and equipment additions or modifications.
Evaluate competitors’ products and materials, including patent information, to contribute to the establishment of benchmarks for new products.
Maintain current knowledge of possible 'Green' materials, processes, and equipment possibilities and incorporate where feasible.
Train managers and associates on new products, including raw materials, manufacturing procedures, product specifications, and properties.
Adopt and utilize ISO 9000 procedures.
Review daily operating variances and troubleshoot for resolution.
Direct involvement and travel to existing and potential customers for the design of new products.
Interact with suppliers, consultants, customers, universities, etc., to support duties.
Collaborate with other members of the R&D personnel worldwide.
Responsible for product and material certifications/approvals by the appropriate agency when required (NSF, USDA, USDA Dairy, EU, REACH).
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager of Product Development R&D US.
What You'll Bring:
MSc Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
3-5 years of manufacturing experience with PVC.
2-4 years of experience with analytical, testing, and characterization techniques of polymeric materials.
Experience with Plastics and Rubber chemistry.
Proven project management experience in R&D/product development.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with manufacturing, marketing, quality assurance, and customers.
Strong analytical skills and excellent verbal, technical writing, and general presentation skills.
Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending English.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with AutoCAD (SolidWorks or Pro Engineering is a plus).
Work Environment:
This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel objects. The position involves occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
