The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team engineers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank. We support two Data Centers, 15,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions, a secure and reliable Network connecting all the technology across the bank footprint and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month. In addition to that foundational technology level, we own the operational support processes, monitoring and command center that provide a unified, well-managed technology response when issues arise. We deliver innovative, and compelling technology solutions, in partnership with our line of business CIOs, to enhance the internal customer experience that enables our business partners to deliver.

Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Patch Management Automated Test Engineer with strong software development skills, QA testing expertise, and deep experience across multiple platforms. This role is pivotal in building and leading automated testing frameworks to ensure the resiliency and performance of patch management processes. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in architecture, automation, and tooling, with hands-on experience in Python, Ansible, and system integration. Additionally, the role involves leading testing efforts across multiple environments and contributing to the design of scalable, efficient automation systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

Design and develop automated testing frameworks and scripts to ensure the integrity, performance, and resiliency of patch management systems across multiple platforms (Linux, Windows, application stacks).

Oversee the planning, execution, and validation of tests for both functional and non-functional aspects of patch management

Provide architectural guidance and ensure that patch management processes are designed for resiliency and high availability.

Develop test strategies and execute testing across diverse platforms, including but not limited to Linux, Windows, Java, .NET, and other application stacks.

Ensure patch management processes are validated in all environments, minimizing disruptions or failures in production systems.

Integrate automation tools and develop new tools to enhance testing efficiency, identifying gaps in the current toolchain and implementing solutions to improve testing effectiveness.

Evaluate and understand highly complex interrelationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications and platforms.

Prepare thorough, clear technical and functional specifications and update systems documentation. Prepare charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems.

Review documentation prepared by less experienced staff.

Maintain efficient operation and effectiveness of supported applications.

Recommend new technology, policies or processes to benefit the organization and improve deficiencies. Lead or participate in technical evaluations of vendor software.

Follow and promote use of development standards and procedures.

Maintain high level of technical aptitude and expert working knowledge of the supporting application(s), development environments and the supported client environment.

Monitor employee performance and may prepare annual appraisals.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.

Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties or projects as required, which may include playing a lead role in due diligence, cost/benefit analysis or business study activities.

Education and Experience Required:

Combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture

Familiar with application development software and hardware platforms

Strong proficiency in Python and Ansible for scripting and automation.

Proven experience in designing and building automated testing frameworks for complex, multi-platform environments.

Hands-on experience with SDLC processes.

Automation Tools: Experience with testing and automation**

Previous experience working on system architecture, particularly as it relates to system resiliency, automation integration, and application/platform interaction.

Ability to lead QA efforts, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure that testing processes are well-integrated into overall operations.

Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with prior experience presenting to the target audience

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Detail-oriented

Experience recommending and implementing system solutions

Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities

Education and Experience Preferred:

5+ years of experience in automated testing, with a focus on infrastructure and patch management systems.

Relevant industry certifications in QA testing, automation frameworks, or platform-specific certifications.

Good understanding of the Bank’s application framework

Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously

Ability to multitask for various components of complex projects

Experience with robotics in testing environments, integrating advanced automation techniques into QA processes.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $110,635.01 - $184,391.68 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
