WORK OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for developing bus maintenance programs and procedures and providing guidance in their implementation across all maintenance facilities. In addition, this position provides technical support to all areas of maintenance at the garage/shop level, including employee training, equipment procurement, warranty administration and parts/component return material authorizations (RMA’s).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Ensures the bus fleet is safely and properly maintained through the extensive use of operating metric analysis and on-site audits (e.g., reviews and analyzes service interruptions; tracks failures; develops maintenance programs based on trends identified in service disruptions; develops and modifies maintenance procedures to make them more efficient). • Performs administrative duties (e.g., maintains records; sets short-term goals; reviews completed work and work orders.) • Implements and assists maintenance personnel in the proper use of the computerized work order maintenance system (e.g., writes procedures, conducts training). • Develops and implements a Bus Maintenance Quality Assurance Program. • Assists in developing and administering maintenance employee technical training programs. • Administers new equipment warranty programs. • Develops and administers Return Material Authorization (RMA) program. • Evaluates opportunities for technical improvements in operations and equipment and implements such improvements as appropriate. • Coordinates maintenance environmental compliance activities. • Relieves Supervisors as required. • Performs a variety of other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must possess a broad knowledge of bus maintenance programs and operations including a thorough knowledge of Metro work standards. Ability to use maintenance manuals to evaluate procedures required to institute proper preventive maintenance and to provide technical assistance to employees as needed. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to prepare detailed reports and to communicate procedures and concepts effectively. Working knowledge of modern office practices, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors, and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s degree in a mechanical/electrical field or in heavy-duty maintenance and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License class B with a passenger endorsement.
