The EHS Professional assists in the development and deployment of best in class EHS programs, systems and processes. Works with facility leadership in complying with federal, state and local EHS regulations. Uses the EHS strategic plan as a template for continuous improvement of EHS metrics. Helps drive effective, sustainable implementation of corporate and local initiatives. Communicates with regulatory authorities with the assistance of EHS Manager. Maintains an effective communication process with the locations operational and maintenance organizations. Provides training to facility employees and acts a technical EHS resource for site personnel.

This role is based at our Buffalo, NY facility 3 days a week and 2 days a week at our Wheatfield, NY facility.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist facility leadership with the execution of EHS programs and regulations. May act as the facility radiation safety officer and support site strategic and tactical EHS teams. Typically, responsible for providing guidance on compliance with all relevant OSHA regulatory requirements including confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment, material handling and PSM compliance. Conducts audits to ensure OSHA and EPA compliance. Participates in incident investigations, develops corrective actions and enters information into Materion Safety

  • Assist the facility in complying with Clean Air Act including Title V or equivalent emission permitting, as well as greenhouse reduction support. Understands compliance requirements for all air permit assessments and completes applications for new sources or source modification with assistance from EHS Manager. Assists in the preparation of environmental reports including ESG report for greenhouse gases and water usage. Responsible for assisting the facility in complying with Clean Water Act and hazardous waste regulations. Responsible for assisting the facility in complying with hazardous waste regulations. Work with facility leaders to maintain ISO14001 certification. Responsible for the design and assists in the implementation of the storm water pollution prevention plans. Conducts audits to ensure EPA compliance

    REQUIREMENTS: ​

  • BS in an EHS field and a minimum of 1 years of experience or a Master’s degree and <1 years of experience. BS degree in a relevant EHS field is preferred

  • Designing and implementing compliance strategies with OSHA and EPA regulations. Relevant OSHA regulations include: radiation safety, confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment and material handling. Relevant EPA regulations include: Air and water permitting and compliance assurance, environmental reporting for air water, hazardous and solid waste

  • Up to 3 years of experience in an EHS related field

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience designing and implementing compliance strategies with OSHA and EPA regulations is preferred

  • Compliance knowledge of the following OSHA regulations: radiation safety, confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment and material handling. Relevant EPA regulations include: Air and water permitting and compliance assurance, environmental reporting for air water, hazardous and solid waste. Data collection and analysis for Materion’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) process

  • Works under supervision to develop written instructions for technicians to comply with local and corporate EHS policies and procedures

  • Participates and monitors compliance local, state and federal programs

  • Makes recommendations to improve the work environment based on interpretations and professional practices

  • Uses complicated environmental and industrial hygiene equipment

  • Proficient in data verification, correlation and preparation of EHS reports

  • Performs calculations, data entry, data analysis, field monitoring and report writing

  • May provide leadership to EHS technicians

  • Acts a technical advisor for small projects or less complicated business units

  • Develops and conducts EHS training

  • All of the above plus management systems (ISO 45000/14001) experience is preferred

Pay Range:

$62,300.00 - $93,500.00

Actual base salary offered varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
