The Organization:Health Sciences Charter School provides Buffalo high-school age youth with an

The Position: Director of Human Resources

Primary Role:You will be responsible for the school's talent acquisition strategy, serve as the

primary HR contact for the school's staff - handling administration of the full scope

of HR services, and basic support of the school's business office.

Scope:Create and manage the school's talent acquisition strategy, including the development

and implementation of job descriptions and job postings; applicant screening, interview

coordination, and onboarding of new hires.

With the support of our outsourced HR vendor; ensure the organization is up to date and

compliant with all applicable labor and employment laws. Create, disseminate and uphold

company policies which effectively balance this compliance with our vibrant culture.

Administration of the school's payroll process; employee benefits; employee leaves; and

insurance - including customer service support for employees and other stakeholders.

Work cooperatively with the leadership team and staff to support and improve training

and development, disciplinary proceedings, and employee certifications.Support the business office in administration of RFPs, purchasing, and accounts payable.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree and 5 years of experience in a similar or closely related role; or a combination of education and experience of equivalent value

  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll, leaves, and benefits administration.

  • Comfort and experience developing and implementing a talent acquisition strategy.

  • Compensation (12 Month Exempt Role) Salary range: $75-85k, and benefits package including over four

weeks of PTO, health insurance, 401k match up to 5%, and tuition reimbursement.

Position Summary:The Director of Human Resources is responsible for supporting Health Sciences Charter

School by managing all human resource management functions, administering payroll, and handling other

administrative responsibilities.

This role provides key administrative leadership in a highly confidential work environment. The individual filling

this position will be required to effectively engage with internal and external resources, including prominent

community leaders and the school's Board of Trustees.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems that are aligned with overall Health

Sciences Charter School strategy.

  • Administers local compensation administration program and supports data collection for various audit and submission to administrative agencies for required reporting.

  • As a member of the school's strategic leadership team, exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to Head of School communication and oversight of assigned school functions.

  • Will ensure that all NYS HR required trainings are completed by all employees

  • Administer the school's payroll process and benefits administration.

  • Responsibility for the school's talent acquisition; development and execution of the recruitment strategy.

  • Ability to promote DEI initiatives in recruitment and placement of new talent.

  • Work collaboratively and in good stewardship of school resources with outside HR support vendor (ESC)

  • Work in conjunction with the School Business Manager to complete payroll and PTO procedures

  • Assume responsibility for accurate maintenance of central filing systems, personnel records, maintenance as it pertains to all HR functions and issues and communicate reminders to administrators of deadlines.

  • Audit personnel files, policies, and procedures on an annual basis in concert with ESC.

  • Oversee all hiring and performance management processes as executed by the appropriate supervisor,

including posting process and onboarding new employees by generating offer letters and assisting/ following up with ESC.

  • Monitors career-pathing program, promotional line progression, training and skills development, employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.

  • Complete all new hire onboarding, drug screening, fingerprinting, TEACH accounts, and certifications.

  • Manage the use of the TEACH system to regulate staff certifications, access fingerprinting, and complete

employment verifications for previous employees, ABLEmembers and input superintendent information.

  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all employee performance and professional

duties as stated in the Employee Handbook and Teachers Association Agreement.

  • Provide status reports for compliance and fulfill requests for employee and organizational data

  • Provide administrative-clerical support for the school's business office in the form of basic bookkeeping

  • Other duties as assigned and requested.

Education, Experience and Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience in instructional setting.

  • Strong Microsoft Office user knowledge (word processing, spreadsheet, database).

  • Strong background in talent acquisition and recruiting in competitive environments, ability to promote DEI initiatives in recruitment and placement of new talent.

  • Strong judgment, decision making, and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience administering company payroll; strong knowledge of wage and hour laws

  • Benefits administration knowledge

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information and ideas coherently.

  • Strong active listening abilities. Tactfulness, courtesy and patience with staff.

  • Strong time management skills with appropriate schedule flexibility as necessary and required.
