CTG Agile Scrum Master in Buffalo, New York

Location: Buffalo, NY

Duration: 12 months (potential for extension or conversion)

Overview:

CTG is seeking an experienced Agile Scrum Master for our client in Buffalo, NY. This role will be responsible for providing servant-leadership and mentorship to multiple cross-functional agile teams, applying Agile principles and frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP). The Scrum Master will foster a culture of continuous improvement, facilitate team collaboration, and ensure that all team members work towards achieving their goals efficiently. This position requires a proactive leader capable of creating an environment that supports self-organization, cross-functionality, and transparency.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams using Agile practices, including user stories, retrospectives, story mapping, Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), continuous integration, and pairing.

  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement within agile teams through transparency, collaboration, and retrospectives.

  • Curate and develop coaching content for agile practices to guide teams.

  • Facilitate key meetings, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and problem-solving sessions.

  • Ensure team workflows are transparent through the use of appropriate information radiators.

  • Remove any blocking issues outside the team’s authority to ensure continued focus on goals.

  • Collaborate with other Agile Leaders to enhance Agile implementation within the organization.

  • Mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and guide their development.

  • Organize and promote individual and team learning opportunities, including communities of practice, conferences, meetups, reading, and training.

  • Adhere to the company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain internal control standards and implement audit points and any regulatory issues as applicable.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Scrum Master will have the opportunity to influence multiple agile teams and assist in improving their performance through Agile principles. They will be responsible for driving continuous improvement and ensuring teams stay focused on their goals while managing workflow transparency.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Although this role does not include direct managerial responsibility, it requires the Scrum Master to manage activities through influence, accountability, and ownership in an agile environment.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team, including at least 2 years of Scrum Master experience.

  • Or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or work experience, with at least 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team and 2 years of Scrum Master experience.

Skills Required:

  • Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP)

  • Project management

  • Jira / Confluence

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Depth of knowledge in at least two technology team roles (e.g., project manager, user experience, business analyst, developer, testing, deployment).

  • Experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement.

  • Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices.

  • Experience developing or managing digital capabilities.

  • Familiarity with Design Thinking principles.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Prior experience leading through influence.
