Role summary:
The Applied Fluid Dynamics team is part of the global operating department of Global Engineering Services (GES) within the Flowserve Corporation. The team performs in depth fluids analysis on all product lines of Flowserve, including valves, pumps and mechanical seals. The analyses are done for both internal customers during R&D, product upgrades, order acquisition/fulfilment and for external customers in the aftermarket.
Flowserve has restructured the engineering organization to a centralized global organization. In this organization, GES delivers high specialized services to all Flowserve’s business units in the following areas: Fluid Flow, Structural Mechanics, Materials and Product Compliance.
The Engineer provides analysis of fluid components and systems to the various requesters according to the requirements and delivery times requested. Where expected results are not obtained the engineer provides suggestions of changes to reach the objectives. The key objectives are accuracy and quality of the results as well as the on-time delivery of said results. The position reports to the Manager of GES Applied Fluids Dynamics.
Analyses:
Steady/transient flow analysis, Multiphase flow analysis , Thermal analysis, Flow induced vibrations/aeroacoustics analysis , Lumped parameter model analysis.
Your Role:
Completion of high-end projects, where mathematical model development is required
Completion of large, high-profile R&D projects with high uncertainty.
Support to the Customer Service Order Fulfillment, Manufacturing and Supply Chain department on technical support
Provide management with accurate and informative reports and evaluate the results of project assignments along with appropriate recommended course of action
Conduct or participate in Root Cause Analysis in order to define corrective and preventive actions
Support and develop the key technologies of Flowserve Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), flow visualization, erosion modelling, thermodynamic modelling, computer-aided mechanical design, system simulations
Share information, knowledge, and experience with other business units within Flowserve
Perform evaluation utilizing classical methods of thermal analysis, and hydraulic analysis
Participate in design reviews
Parametric design studies, “design of Experiment”, etc.
Calibration of CFD results with physical testing
Serve as CFD subject matter expert on cross-functional engineering team
Interpret and explain CFD results to relevant Flowserve requester and customers both internal and external
Requirements:
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
The function requires a minimum of 5 years working experience in engineering simulation, specifically of rotating equipment
Background working within a customer oriented working environment
Broad knowledge of engineering is essential. Deep understanding of CFD and numerical simulation methods
Knowledge of complex pump/seal/valve design, hydraulic drawings is a plus
Fluency in English is must
Good oral and written communication skills
Extended knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Experience with Root Cause Analysis is preferred
Ability to modify the mathematical models and develop special solution workflows
Completion of non-standard projects where model customization is required and/or reading white papers is necessary
Discussions with customers
Ability to customize the solver (journal scripting, user defined function programming)
Programming knowledge (C#/C++/Visual Basic/Python) is a huge advantage
