The OneFleet Platform team, part of Azure Core, is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our team. We stage and orchestrate deployments and repairs on a global scale, across millions of virtual machines, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high availability for our customers. Our team is focused on deployment safety and repairs, using data-driven decisions, and adding smartness through our data platform and data science. We are evolving our system from batch processing to a streaming solution and need your expertise to help us build the next generation of Azure Core infrastructure. As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will be overseeing a team of software engineers, ensuing project and development excellence, fostering career development and support, and cultivating a team culture characterized by customer passion, collaboration, diversity and inclusion. This role necessitates the ability to collaborate across organizations and divisions and offers an opportunity to contribute to defining and executing the vision and technical strategy for enhancing our product. The individual in this role will be accountable for designing, implementing and operating high-scale, highly optimized services capable of accommodating exponential growth in scale, volume and usage over the years to come.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and guidance for the engineering team, ensuring best practices in software development and system design.

• Manage a team of engineers, their career growth and business impact.

• Guide partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g. project managers, technical leaders) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

• Guide teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service or platform.

• Ensure the team delivers high-quality code through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration practices.

• Optimize, debug, refactor and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness and return on investment (ROI).

• Guide team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g. technical project managers).

• Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and drive the adoption of new tools and techniques to improve engineering productivity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

• OR equivalent experience.

• People management experience.

• Experience in developing and operating large scale distributed backend services.

• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, and to manage complex engineering projects.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited toC#, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
