Job Description

General Summary: Operates and maintains equipment used for road construction and maintenance; and assists in the construction and repair of county roads, culverts, ditches, and bridges. Essential Duties: Other duties may be assigned. Operates any equipment at Road and Bridge including, but not limited to, 18-wheeler, motor grader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, steel roller, tractor and shredder, bulldozer and water truck. Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel tires and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments; Patches, tamps, packs, and levels hot mix, dirt or other materials during road repair; Smooths road surfaces; Clears ditches and culverts; Installs and repairs culverts; Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts and right of way; Loads heavy equipment, standard hand tools, and road maintenance materials onto haul truck; Drives truck to haul material to and from work site; Surveys roads for potential hazards and secures appropriate hazardous warning signs; and May dispose of animal carcasses. Other Duties as assigned.
