Job Summary

The Print Periodicals Specialist manages all aspects of the receipt, processing, and continuing maintenance of all library serials and periodicals. This includes setting up predictions for all titles, receiving and checking in newly-published issues, maintaining bibliographic, holding, and item records, binding and transfer of titles, and maintaining documentation for all processes. This position will also facilitate the withdrawal of periodicals as appropriate.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and preservation of print periodical collections. Maintains, updates, and manages item/bibliographic records for the print periodical collection. Manages commercial bindery services for all the library branches (including the coordination and training of branch staff on these procedures).

  • Receives and physically processes new periodical issues, including check-in, claiming, and physical shelf preparation. Updates bibliographic, holdings, and item records accordingly.

  • Provide expertise and support to library projects which impact the print periodicals collection. This may include collection analysis, retrospective cataloging and itemization, and projections of future collection growth.

  • Establishes prediction patterns in Alma for current periodicals. Collaborates with Head of Acquisitions and Head of Cataloging to maintain current title lists, track title changes, and update title frequency.

    Education/Skills Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field or 4 years equivalent experience required.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

1-3 years experience preferred.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and meet frequent deadlines.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of library technical services operations.

    Standard Work Days and Hours

This position is scheduled for 24 hours per week (.6 FTE ) and is year-round.

Specific hours will be scheduled between 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday.
