Nephrology & Hypertension Medical Associates Patient Care Coordinator in Brunswick, Georgia

General Summary:

The Patient Care Coordinator/Certified Medical Assistant assists clinical area and providers with various clerical duties to assure efficient and timely response to physicians and patients.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Greeting patients professionally both in person and on the phone as back up to front desk.

  2. Quickly answering or properly referring questions and issues to the appropriate person/team.

  3. Processes all incoming faxes: sorting and distributing appropriate information for physicians and nurses within 24 hours.

  4. Creating tasks for incoming referrals and medical records for the appropriate team for all provider orders written at the time of appointment.

  5. Registering new patients and updating current patient information in the PM system from incoming referrals and faxes.

  6. Handles phone coverage. Assists nurses with calls to patients that do not require clinical information. In the event a patient requires additional information, the call will be forwarded to the appropriate provider team.

  7. Assists others by providing information that enhances the workflow throughout the practice.

  8. Establishes and maintains rapport with hospital and community contacts for medical records.

  9. Maintaining incoming and outgoing medical records.

  10. Works effectively with patients.

  11. Able to stay until the last appointment is completed.

  12. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the practice

  2. Knowledge of safety issues as identified within the practice

  3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and medical software.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; Two years of experience in health care environment as a Certified Medical Assistant are required. Medical Terminology and experience with medical practice software preferred.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment with emphasis on computer and telephone use.

Environmental/Work Environment: Medical office. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions related to medical practice setting and public interaction.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

Mostly sedentary with some standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion standing and walking). Periodic stress from face-to-face encounters with patients/visitors and phone call interactions. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, blood/body secretions and medicinal preparations.

HIPAA Statement: Position involves accessing and utilizing protected health information (PHI) of patients. Extreme confidentiality required along with upholding the HIPAA privacy practices rules and regulations as required by law.
