PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD Engineering Technician (Engineering Tech) in Brownsville, Texas
May provide guidance and leadership toCADDrafters and other less experienced staff. Completes technical duties according to prescribed methods and procedures, which involve basic engineering and surveying skills. Performs field surveys of water, wastewater, and electrical utilities and plant assets as required in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the utilitys assets. Obtains necessary city and state construction permits and prepares work orders. Prepares Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings of proposed construction projects and as-built information. Prepares reports and completes a variety of tasks in the preparation and implementation of utility construction projects. Assist in preparing change orders to the original plans and specifications when field conditions dictate change for utility construction projects. Coordinates construction work with other entities such as engineering consultants, city and state, water, wastewater, electrical, telephone, gas utilities, etc. Processes requests for installing and removing street and security lighting, negotiates lighting contracts with customers, and keeps control of executed lighting contracts. Prepares work orders for installation of residential and lighting services. Participates as a member of a survey team or assumes responsibility of a survey team to assist in staking of construction projects. Conducts field equipment and facility assessments and investigations used for planning of rehabilitation and maintenance activities. Assists in the evaluation of mechanical equipment (pumps, motors, mixers, etc.) and generates reports. Utilizes various instruments such as surveying levels and total stations, data collectors, portable flow meters, hydrogen gas analyzers and monitors, equipment vibration and temperature monitors, etc. Performs and supervises field investigations of electrical, water lines, valves, fire hydrants, meters, wastewater lines, and manholes, including their size and depth. Completes other job duties as assigned.
