Indian Health Service Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound Tech) in Browning, Montana
Summary A housing subsidy from the Blackfeet Service Unit of up to $660.00 per pay period without dependents or $814.00 per pay period with dependents may be available. Responsibilities Performs a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human subjects to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury; includes those exams requiring deviation from standard guidelines for positioning and for setting technical factors due to patient condition or other unusual circumstances. Selects, sets up, adjusts, and operates ultrasound equipment. Conducts examination, adjusting technique and equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found. If unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered, extends and modifies procedures to insure full and accurate information is obtained. Received and reviews requests from physicians and other healthcare providers for ultrasound examination of patients. Determines the condition(s) at issue and the procedures and equipment necessary to best meet the needs of the individual case. Exercises extreme care, tact and patience in positioning ill and injured patients. Incumbent reviews the diagnostic ultrasound images they have taken to evaluate quality before the patient is finished with the exam. Trains other technologists, radiologists, physicians, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques and equipment. Performs operator level maintenance and care of equipment. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Receive request for procedure or treatment; interpret physician's requests or instructions; set controls and operate the equipment to get test or treatment results. Clean and sterilize instruments and conduct routine maintenance and adjustment checks. Instruct other technicians, physicians, nurses and others in the use of the equipment. Decide how to adapt the instrument to the patient based on information gained through previous experience, observation, and results. Provide diagnostic or treatment services to acutely ill patients. Selective Placement Factor Must be certified in American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in sonography or vascular sonography. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
