GENERAL DUTIES
Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
-Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment
-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions
-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff
-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories
-Maintains safety and hygiene standards
-Documents laboratory activities
-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a Senior College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Department of Biology in the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences (SNBS). Reporting to the Department Chair or designee, the Senior CLT will join a team managing the laboratory components of the department's courses and perform advanced technical functions in support of coursework. Morning schedule will be required. Flexibility for evening schedule may be needed.
In addition to the General Duties, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage laboratory resources, including staff, equipment, supplies, living organisms, and budget. Responsibilities include reallocating resources, preparing, and moving equipment, supplies, staff, and living organisms as needed.
Communicate and regularly interact with faculty, staff, and students in the Brooklyn College SNBS and the Biology Department to prepare and operate laboratories for course instruction.
Work collaboratively with the SNBS Dean’s office, Biology Department CLTs, faculty, staff, and students to organize and prepare the resources, equipment, and personnel for biology laboratory courses in each academic term.
Assist with designing and preparing new laboratory lesson plans. Help plan and execute lab exercises, working closely with faculty, including the course coordinator and the Chairperson, to translate pedagogical objectives of courses into practical lab experiences.
Learn new skills as required, including ordering, and preparing laboratory materials for new exercises.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the department's goals and objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in biology or a related field of study
Previous experience supervising laboratory staff
Four years of experience managing laboratory courses at higher education institutions
Ability to work morning schedule with flexibility to work evening schedule as needed
COMPENSATION
$55,787 - $75,929; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
