Produce drawings using computer-assisted drafting systems (CAD) and other drafting machines. Draft plans and detailed drawings for structural steel including detailing and fabrication. Explain drawings to the project manager and construction teams and make adjustments as necessary. Determine quality, cost, strength, and quantity of required materials to be used in company projects to ensure that they conform to design concepts. Establish procedures and instructions based on design specifications and the required quantity of materials. Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, as well as other technical documents and reports to assess their impact on designs.
