YMCA of Greater New York Maintenance Worker/Porter I (Coney Island YMCA) in Brooklyn, New York

The Coney Island YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter who will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. The Maintenance Worker/Porter may also be required to complete duties related to window washing, meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.Key Responsibilities:-Ensure the Coney Island YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.-Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.-Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.-Ensures the Coney Island YMCA building and property are secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.-Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.-May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.-Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.-Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.-Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.Desired Skills & Experience:-High School diploma or equivalent.-Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.-Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.-Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.-Obtain a YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within 1 year of attaining the position.-Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.-Ability to perform essential maintenance on facility or equipment, which may involve, but is not limited to, the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling, shoveling; carrying; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.-Ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding, and motorized lifts up to 30 feet.-Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.-Ability to safely use hand tools and operate motorized equipment that will be used in the execution of the daily work assignment.Benefits:The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more!
