Lecturer or Assistant Professor (2 Positions) - Career & Technology Teacher Education
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering 58 associate and bachelor's degree programs located in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for two full-time positions, at the rank of lecturer or assistant professor, in the Career and Technology Teacher Education (CTTE) Department, to begin in the Fall 2024 semester. The full-time lecturer position leads to a certificate of continuous employment (CCE). The assistant professor position is a tenure track appointment.
The Career and Technology Teacher Education (CTTE) Department currently offers Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed) degrees in both Career & Technical Teacher Education and Technology Teacher Education, as well as the Transitional C Certificate program in Technology Education. The CTTE Department also offers initial certificates in Career & Technical Education and Technology Education. All of these programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The CTTE department is part of the School of Professional Studies.
Faculty members are expected to be committed to student-centered teaching and creating active and inclusive learning environments, and capable of building trusting and collaborative relationships with students and colleagues in order to serve the department's mission. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Career and Technology Teacher Education, they will contribute to the CTTE Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College, and the University, through activities including but not limited to: services related to the day-to-day operation of the department, recruitment & admissions, student services, advisement, assessment, reaccreditation, governance, partnerships, funding, and curriculum development.
Lecturer position responsibilities include:
Teaching and service to the department and college. Faculty members are expected to develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations and attend regional and national/international conferences. In addition to teaching, the position entails office hours for student support and advisement and administrative duties within the department to promote curriculum enhancement and program excellence.
Assistant professor responsibilities include:
All activities related to the lecturer position, plus sustained productive scholarship or professional achievement.
General duties include:
Teaching pedagogy or laboratory courses in the Career and Technology Teacher Education department.
Academic advisement, guidance, committee and departmental assignments, and professional development activities.
Contributions to reaccreditation requirements.
Service to the College through participation in the activities, projects and committee assignments within the university, college and community groups, School of Professional Studies, and the Career and Technology Education department.
Participation in ongoing student and faculty recruitment activities such as high school visits, conducting open houses and attending professional activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Lecturer:
Bachelor's degree in Career and Technical Education, Workforce and Vocational Education, Computer Science Education, Technology Education, or a related field is required for the lecturer appointment. Also required is the ability to teach successfully and to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred for the lecturer position.
Applicants with degrees in other relevant STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply.
A strong grasp of current knowledge and practice in the fields of technology education, computer science education and /or career and technical education.
Understanding of Learning Standards for Career Development and Occupational Studies, Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy (STEL), and/or New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards (CSDF).
Working knowledge and experience with assessment and accreditation, including familiarity with state and national program requirements for teacher preparation.
Experience with student teaching supervision or clinical coordination.
Ability to operate and maintain hands-on lab/tools/equipment and software for CTE, technology education, or computer science education.
A minimum of three years of P-12 teaching experience.
COMPENSATION
Lecturer – $69,983 - $88,998
Assistant Professor - $75,465 - $93,134
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
