Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate ’ s experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be considered.

Purpose of Position : Housing Navigator serves as an instrumental liaison between identified landlord partners, homelessness programs, and supportive social services. The Navigator will be responsible for developing relationships with the referring partners such as landlords, community-based organizations, or shelters, to maximize effectiveness while also being an advocate to our community members

Schedule: Monday – Friday (Day Shift)

Salary : $55-58K annual DOE

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Conduct outreach to families and individuals facing eviction and/or seeking permanent housing within NYC communities

  • Assess prospective clients and determine eligibility for the program as well as educate regarding their rights

  • Liaise with referring staff to receive referrals of households; perform outreach to all households referred to the program on time

  • Screen, assess, and refer clients to supportive services and/or financial assistance programs that fit their specific needs with the goal of establishing housing stability and/or reducing or eradicating rental arrears

  • Conduct follow-up assessments for referred services to aid in maintaining sustainability i.e. workforce development/employment services, financial coaching, RiseBoro Homebase services, community-based organizations, etc.

  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen the collaborative partnerships/relationships with community providers to ensure smooth referral hand-offs; including internal and external providers

  • Ensure adherence to program metrics by tracking data and outcomes; utilize designated designed program tools as appropriate

  • Provide housing technical assistance and training to landlord staff members as needed

  • Complete monthly and quarterly reports as needed

  • Represent RiseBoro in the community and at funder meetings as needed

  • Participate in management meetings as needed to address program challenges

  • Other related duties as assigned

    Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in housing/homelessness/prevention social services required

  • Proficiency with various computer programs including Microsoft Office programs; ability to utilize technology in daily work; experience with web-based applications

    Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in homeless/housing services; proficient background knowledge of eviction prevention, NYC shelter system, public benefits/assistance, housing eviction proceedings, and other homeless services required

  • Experience working with clients, particularly those with multiple, overlapping challenges/ barriers to housing while managing a caseload of clients with diverse challenges

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; organized and detail-oriented

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop interdisciplinary relationships

  • Ability to use knowledge, skills, and resources to advocate on behalf of the client population and problem-solve and think through complex challenges

  • Ability to travel to various sites and community locations throughout NYC as needed

  • Experience in case management or project management preferred
