PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities.

PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 82 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 17 percent receive special education services, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL).

Opportunity Summary

PAVE Academy Charter School is looking for a dedicated Facilities Manager to join our team. The Facilities Manager will ensure that PAVE is a welcoming, safe, clean, and efficient space. The Facilities Manager will be the school's on-site leader with respect to ensuring that students, families, and staff have access to a first-class environment for learning and working. In addition, the Facilities Manager will inform and implement clear systems so that PAVE's facility runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Facilities Manager will collaborate heavily with the Operations Team in order to ensure facility plans meet the vision and needs of the leadership team.

How You'll Contribute

  • On-site leader ensuring the school is a clean, beautiful, safe, and learning-oriented space for all students, staff, and community members

  • Inform and implement clear systems so that PAVE's facility runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis

  • Support the daily management of the security and cleaning teams, ensuring that the security and cleaning companies are aligned with PAVE's vision and standards

  • Collaborate heavily with the Director of Operations in order to ensure facilities plans meet the vision and needs of the leadership team

  • Proactively address any facility-related shortcomings around safety, cleanliness, and compliance

  • Conduct daily walkthrough of facility to ensure building is ready for staff and student arrival

  • Provide oversight and support to on-site facilities staff at PAVE, and any additional internal and/or outsourced staff

  • Provide critical, informed input for facilities decisions

  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and address them; providing recommendations for improvements in systems and processes

  • Lead the implementation of routine maintenance and inspection schedules, including daily inspection of all major systems

  • Lead in the management, implementation, and renewal of vendor contracts, invoice payments, and record keeping;

  • Serve as the point of contact for all external facilities related vendors while proactively contacting existing external vendors with support from the Director of Operations

  • Build strong relationships with vendors and inspectors

  • Help to inform and implement a set of space and aesthetic guidelines for schools to adhere to;

  • Manage expenses against an annual budget

  • Maintain high staff satisfaction when it comes to response time and consistently works to improve building operations

  • Implement effective communication system about repair and maintenance needs

  • Manage inventory of all facility-related consumable and equipment

  • Coordinate with the Operations Team to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and inspections

  • Conduct minor plumbing, electrical, or other repair and maintenance work as needed

  • Fully troubleshoot a repair before engaging any contracted vendor/service provider

  • Support the school during all facility-related issues and emergencies, including inclement weather, alarms, and repairs (this likely includes reporting in-person)

  • Coordinate facility upgrades and preventative maintenance programs on a rotating basis with Operations Team input

  • Certificate of Fitness S95 (Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems- Fire Panel)

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of building and life-safety systems including technical knowledge of building maintenance, materials, equipment, mechanical systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC), custodial operations (equipment, products and standards), and Building and Fire codes

  • An entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the opportunity for creativity and hard work

  • At least 3 years of experience in school operations, building superintendence, property management, or construction

  • Spanish language proficiency

  • Comfort with reading and entering data into Excel spreadsheets
