EOC Employment Specialist (2 Openings) - BEOC (Extended)

POSITION DETAILS

The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC), administered by New York City College of Technology/CUNY, offers tuition-free academic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to lifelong learning, college access and economic self-sufficiency.

Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Affairs or designee, the EOC Employment Specialist provides job development, job preparation, and job placement activities to students seeking employment, and promotes Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) services to the community and other interested parties.

BEOC seeks Employment Specialists focused on job readiness and job development, in order to prepare and connect students/graduates to internships and job opportunities in allied health, business, technology, and security. The employment specialists will establish relationships with employers leading to job placement, and will serve as career coaches, providing assistance to students, assessing their capabilities and experience, and developing career plans to assist them to find and retain employment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Job Readiness

  • Conduct group and individual sessions/workshops on career skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, building personal brands through social media

  • Advise students and graduates on job readiness and placement to lead to successful employment outcomes

  • Nurture and develop professional communication and interpersonal skills for program students and graduates

  • Maintain accurate data for each student

  • Coordinate services with other EOC units including faculty, advisors, learning resources

Job Development

  • Assist in conducting market research on employment trends

  • Develop employer relationships, establishing pipelines to employment and internships

  • Assist in conducting evaluation of employment sites

  • Respond to job leads and locate jobs for students who have completed their training

  • Match employer job demands with students who fit requirements

  • Help students find and keep employment consistent with their career goals

  • Manage relationships with students, graduates, and employers

  • Assist in developing materials to promote student success stories

Other

  • Follow up and document student internship and job placement

  • Build capacity for unemployed and underemployed workers to re-enter job market

Employment Specialists will be expected to engage in professional development, staying current with professional standards and literature, and to work to secure industry partners. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend duties, may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in adult education/career development and internship and job placement.

  • Understanding of recruitment and hiring practices in NYC economy.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to support the mission of the Academic Affairs department.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed accounts of student activities for tracking and accountability purposes.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in technology and the use of computer applications to track and report program operational and outcome data.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides job development, job preparation, and job placement activities to students seeking employment and promotes Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) services to the community and other interested parties.

  • Develops placement opportunities for EOC students in program-related areas

  • Contacts businesses and employers and markets the EOC and the capabilities of its students

  • Plans and organizes employer meetings, job fairs, career days, and other student programs

  • Develops and conducts regular sessions with students regarding job market, employment trends, emerging job opportunities and other topics of interest

  • Develops and conducts job preparation activities for students

  • Assesses employability of students and refers them to available job openings

  • Schedules qualified students for employment interviews

  • Follows up on students sent for employment interview in order to complete the placement process

  • Works with other departments to ensure comprehensive outreach and follow-up

  • Performs related duties as assigned

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$56,447 to $79,188. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
