POSITION DETAILS
Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.
Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 200 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
Reporting to the Bursar Director, the Third-Party Coordinator will manage the third-party process and posting of scholarships and other awards as the main responsibility, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
The Enrollment Bursar Coordinator will function as the Student Collections Coordinator and will be responsible for managing the collection efforts related to outstanding student accounts receivable. They work closely with various departments within the university to ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations regarding student debt collection.
Reporting to the Enrollment Bursar Director, the Student Collections Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with students, parents, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships regarding payment arrangements, repayment plans, and debt resolution option while effectively communicating the importance of meeting financial obligations
Key Responsibilities will include:
-Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for the timely collection of outstanding student accounts receivable.
-Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns from students, parents, and other stakeholders.
-Monitor student accounts for delinquencies and take appropriate actions to address them.
-Allocate Student accounts with the corresponding collection agencies.
-Monitor collection agency activities and payments.
-Post collection agency payments to student accounts.
-Reconcile collection agency reports with CUNYFirst reports.
-Maintain accurate records of collection activities and communications.
-Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in collections procedures.
-Present findings and recommendations to management for decision-making purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred qualifications:
Two years of related experience or a combination of advanced education and work experience
Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills preferred.

Performs processing, collection, reconciliation and maintenance of student receivables
Counsels students in meeting college financial obligations including current tuition, prior receivables and methods of payment; responds to student account inquiries
Maintains revenue files; prepares reports as required
Assists in the review of student accounts; identifies and reports delinquent accounts
May assist in the evaluation and verification of student eligibility for various loans and grants
Provides support to ensure the smooth flow of business operations and completion of required administrative tasks within the office; may supervise clerical and/or part-time staff
Performs related duties as assigned.
