Responsibilities

In addition to making such knowledgeable and service-oriented announcements in

response to a substantial number of incidents daily (note: the average number of

incidents per day is 250, as measured by the number of Incident Reports generated),

Dedicated Announcer Supervisors are also expected to perform the following tasks in

between announcements:

1) Continuously monitor train movement along the board to detect announcement-worthy conditions, such as inconsistent headways, and, in turn, provide a checks-and-balances

accountability measure for Console Train Dispatchers.

2) Administratively supervise (i.e., timekeeping, rollcall)

and crew Dedicated Field Announcers to the most critical field locations/towers,

as well as undertake ad-hoc field visits to audit Dedicated Field Announcers’

ongoing quality of work.

3) When service disruptions affect stations under the jurisdiction of

a Dedicated Field Announcer, provide direct oversight of DFA

by reviewing announcement scripts for accuracy of information.

4) Prepare “Announcement Scripts” for upcoming planned service

disruptions (e.g., General Orders) in coordination with the General Orders (GO) team.

5) Pre-record and broadcast announcements on general security

protocols and acceptable rider behavior within the subway

environment.

Compensation

Salaries will remain the same.

Education and Experience

ELIGIBILITY: All Assistant Train Dispatchers and Train Dispatchers in the title for one year, are eligible to apply.

Desired Skills

Knowledge of New York City Transit rules and regulations

Knowledge of New York City subway service

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Experience with PC hardware/software (Windows 95/98/XP/Vista, MS Office)

Selection Method

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of Department of Subways’ employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
