Represents the Brookings Police in the majority of initial contacts between the department and the public; processes requests for police service, dispatches police units or makes other referrals; processes fire calls and dispatches responders; processes medical emergency calls and dispatches medical responders; provides Emergency Medial Dispatch when required. Other duties include records processing; preparation of reports, indexing and filing of administrative and crime reports and recordation of statistical data. REQUIREMENTS: * 18 years or older and high school graduate or equivalent. * Possession of a valid driver\'s license. * Must be able to work a variety of shifts including nights and weekends. * Good moral character, integrity and honesty as evidenced by satisfactorily completing a full background investigation. * DPSST Certification desired but not required at time of hire. Candidates with current certification will be given preference (DPSST Certification required within 12 months of hire). JOB DUTIES: * Operate a multi-line telephone console and alerting system * Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency medical calls * Monitor a radio console and operate computer equipment * Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints * Ask questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller\'s situation in order to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer callers to other agencies * Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms * Perform other duties as assigned HOURS: Work a variety of shifts including nights and weekends.
