The Senior Quality/Reliability Engineer will utilize advanced-level test development and failure analysis skills to contribute to the development and qualification of new power tool products. This is a hands-on position where the candidate will be required to gain an understanding of the usage and operation of the tools/equipment under development. Throughout a product's development cycle (Prototype – Mass Production), this position requires strong cross-functional communication skills, analytical expertise, and hands-on failure analysis to help launch new and exciting solutions that meet user needs. This is a fast-paced environment full of opportunities for innovation in new product test methods.

The Senior Quality/Reliability Engineer will promote 'Design for Reliability' early in the development cycle, using physics of failure, reliability predictions, and simulation by creating and executing a comprehensive testing plan at the system, subsystem, and critical component qualification levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Development

  • Lead teams for new product designs and engineering changes with respect to product reliability, user requirements and warranty information

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing to define the products' specifications leading in all aspects of reliability, quality and testing.

  • Participate in design reviews to align prototype and system readiness for testing and verification activities.

  • Participate in User Need Research to identify "critical to quality" (CtQ) requirements on mechanical and electrical design features

  • Support of Advanced Engineering activities targeted at CtQ needs

  • Develop and implement reliability analysis, design, validation, and assessment methods to support successful new product introductions based upon RGA, Stress Strain Analysis, and Warranty Predictions.

  • Responsible for ensuring completion of product qualification-testing plans, including functional, reliability, and durability testing.

  • Develop test plans and prove out test methods based on new or established product designs to ensure products meet customer requirements.

  • Perform DOE’s to support Engineering in their understanding of quality concerns and improvements to design.

  • Analyze, draw conclusions, report and present product information utilizing statistical techniques such as Weibull analysis, reliability distributions and matrices.

  • Draw concise, logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis.

  • Ensure timely failure reporting and perform root cause analysis through thoughtful test design for failures observed in reliability testing and/or field use

  • Lead Risk Assessments (Design, Supplier and Manufacturing) for NPD projects during the product development cycle

  • Interact with North America and Asian suppliers that participate with product development

  • Track multiple projects simultaneously to ensure adherence to schedule and the Milwaukee Tool process

  • Mentor and assist junior Reliability Engineers

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Reliability, Mechanical, Electrical, or other related disciplines)

  • 5+ years of experience in related reliability and quality field

  • Knowledge / Experience with the phases of residential and commercial construction as well as equipment usage

  • Extensive Background in Test Development, Data, Collection and Processing

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and sound statistical application in areas such as DOE, sampling techniques, regression, Reliability (RGA), FMEA, hypothesis testing, etc.

  • Experience with new product commercialization processes emphasizing design, manufacturing, quality, test or reliability activities

  • Experience including training in quality engineering fundamentals and proven experience leading a primary function within a project team

  • Previous relevant experience with Design of Experiments, life data analysis, and other related statistical tools and software (i.e. Minitab, Reliasoft)

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels with creative problem-solving capabilities.

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, can synthesize problems, and easily report them to management.

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time is required (travel includes Domestic and International)

  • Preferred: ASQ Reliability Engineering Certification (ASQ-CRE) or the ability and desire to achieve certification

  • Preferred: Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or Six Sigma experience
