The Firmware Engineering Manager will lead a small team of firmware engineers and electrical engineers in the power tool business in areas of firmware development, simulation, DevOps, firmware testing, and requirements management. Additionally, this position will also perform as a firmware engineer when assigned or as part of team resource management. As the manager, you will work within and facilitate a collaborative team environment with marketing, adjacent departments, quality, electrical engineering, agency/safety teams, suppliers, and global manufacturing operations.

You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Build, manage, and motivate a Best-in-Class team of engineers and team leaders in engineering best practices to deliver required solutions.

  • Quickly, effectively, and candidly frame-up and escalate business risks/opportunities to senior leadership.

  • Actively manage team size, skill sets, and needed resources for all assigned products within Product Support and Value Engineering projects.

  • Grow the team to increase project capacity while maintaining exemplary performance.

  • Secure intellectual property that ensures Milwaukee Tool as an innovation leader.

  • Develop and refine engineering requirements based on marketing and user needs.

  • Develop and validate firmware necessary to meet requirements and to maintain product quality.

  • Serve as an expert resource for the organization to lead teams in industry best practices for firmware development, such as agile development.

  • Review software/firmware designs and source code.

  • Effectively communicate in a professional manner to motivate up, down, and across the organization of a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.

  • Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project cost and metrics that meet the organization’s needs.

  • Champion and drive new processes and procedures to meet the needs of a changing business.

  • Ensure the team is given the time and resources required to succeed by creating and managing robust project roadmaps and resource plans with converged project scope.

  • Manage all department activities including hiring, staffing, capital equipment procurement/planning, and expense budgets.

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 10+ years of highly successful experience with embedded C/C++ in a related field.

  • 5+ years of team leadership experience.

  • Extensive experience in product development including embedded systems, firmware development, and agile development processes and tools.

  • Experience developing bare-metal firmware designs and those utilizing an RTOS.

  • Knowledge and practical experience in all software development lifecycle phases.

  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer reviews.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically and internationally).
