PURPOSE:
The Cedar Knolls House Hard to Place Group Residence serves girls ages 15 to 21 who exhibit a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges stemming from acute and/or chronic traumatization. All of the youth are referred by the Administration for Children's Services. The Group Residence provides supervised living units and programs of therapeutic and recreational services that emphasize family interaction and strengthening of community support networks, as well as increasing independent living skills. The goal for all of our youth is to transition them back to the community within a year of placement to a family member, significant adult connection, achieve housing, higher education, etc.
All treatment team members work to ensure that youth and families drive the focus of their treatment and are full-time partners in their own healing and recovery. The treatment team supports youth and families in developing the skills to keep them safe from abuse, neglect and maltreatment, and to foster and strengthen connection to their home and communities. The team assesses the individual needs of youth, families, and their environments. Clinical programming infused into Milieu Treatment and individualized interventions reflect the program's commitment to culturally competent practice based on strengths, needs, and feedback.
