Position Summary: **The Children’s Aid (CA) Community School Program at Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School has created a thriving partnership that serves under-represented students and their families with the infusion of an array of services. CA leadership is seeking qualified and dedicated candidates to serve as a tutor for a specific caseload of 25-30 students who have been identified as needing additional academic support. Fannie Lou Hamer students are required to complete portfolios in various subject areas and pass the ELA Regents Exam in order to qualify for graduation.
This is a part-time position with a salary of $25 per hour, working roughly 20-25 hours per week. Ability to work between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday.
Reports to: Assistant Program Director
Responsibilities:
Help students develop long-term educational and organizational strategies that will improve academic practice and learning
Guide students to complete their portfolios by helping with research and extensive editing
Assist each student with his/her homework or remedial work as needed
Facilitate group test prep sessions
Input program data into organizational computer system on a regular basis
Assist the Assistant Program Director in collecting and analyzing performance data that will be helpful in developing students’ academic profile and submitting an IAP (Individual Academic Plan) for each participant
Provide feedback to the Assistant Program Director and teachers that will help improve participants’ performance at the school
Actively participate in teacher-led team meetings and parent/teacher conferences
Communicate with the Assistant Program Director on any issues that may affect participants’ academic performance or attendance
Proactively communicate with students and parents regarding attendance, performance, improvement, and effort
Implement attendance improvement interventions for students who have been identified as chronically absent
Minimum Qualifications: **
Prospective candidates should possess a minimum of a high school diploma/GED or Associate’s Degree
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to establish meaningful relationships with young people using a caring approach
Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work as part of a team within a school community
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required
