SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Resident Services Coordinator's (RSC) role is to enable residents to live as independently and self-sufficiently as possible by informing them of available resources, assisting them is obtaining the services they choose to use and advocating for the resident when necessary. The RSC is committed to working with people in a way this is non-judgmental, non-intrusive, confidential and that promotes resident empowerment, autonomy and dignity.
EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE: MSW preferred or Master's Degree in other related field (i.e. gerontology, mental health, counseling) and one to two years related experience working with senior citizens and/or adults with physical disabilities. A Bachelor's degree (BA) in a related field will be considered with four years related experience. Related experience includes prior work as a resident service coordinator or working in a social service or educational position providing assessment and social service referrals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1) Provides general service management which includes intake, education (services available and application procedures) and referral of residents to service providers in the general community. These social services may include meals-on-wheels, transportation, home health aides, homemakers, financial assistance, counseling, preventative health screening, and other needed services. 2) Establish and maintain contacts at service provider agencies that would facilitate our residents getting the services they need. This also assists the RSC with their resident advocate responsibilities. 3) Sponsors educational events, seeking resident input on the selection of subjects which could relate to health care, agency, support, life skills, referral sources, etc. 4) Facilitates the formation of Resident Associations within a property (in conjunction with the Site Manager). 5) Monitors the on-going provision of services from community agencies and keeps the case management and provider agency current with the progress of the individual. Manages the provision of supportive services where appropriate. 6) Serves as a resident advocate and liaison with community agencies, networks with community providers and seeks out new services available to the residents. 7) Assists the residents in building informal support networks with other residents, family and friends. Mediates disputes among residents or refer residents to mediation. 8) Assists in resolving problems facing the housing community, concerning but not limited to, housing, crime prevention, transportation, meal programs, and health care.
