City of Brockton Public Health Nurse in Brockton, Massachusetts
Position: Public Health Nurse Location: Health Department Position Type: Full-time / Benefited / Union Salary: \$68,970 - \$71,691 (5-step position) Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs professional nursing and administrative work to provide and organize various health programs and services; investigates and reports cases of possible communicable diseases to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; follows up on disease reports. Maintains supply of vaccines for distributions to local hospitals, clinics, and private practices; picks up vaccines from the Department of Public Health; records lot numbers and expiration dates and maintains appropriate logs. Administers vaccines and flu clinics; conducts vaccine clinics for municipal employees who are at high risk for Hepatitis B. Acts as the case manager for all active TB cases in the City and serves as a resource for practitioners for TB control/prevention. Evaluates newly arrived immigrants and refugees with suspected TB; completes appropriate forms for immigrant/refugee health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Enforces isolation and quarantine regulations, including compulsory hospitalization of uncooperative TB patients in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health TB Control Program. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of public health nursing principles, practices, and public health resources; knowledge of communicable diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases; knowledge of applicable MDPH regulations. Ability to work independently; ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; ability to assess public health needs and issues; ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with City officials, public health officials, and the general public. Excellent communication skills and public relation skills. Provides health care advice, information, and education to the community; reviews dog bite reports; assists in interventions; participates in community health organizations and task forces. Arranges community health activities including planning and coordinating screenings, immunization clinics, and health fairs. Performs similar or related duties as required, or as situations dictate. SUPERVISION: Works under the general direction of the Executive Health Officer. Requirements: Preferred Education and Experience: Education and Experience: Bachelor\'s Degree; two or three years of clinical nursing experience in a Board of Health/Public Health Nurse setting; experience in case management, epidemiology, community health, and health education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Registration by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse. Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Driver\'s license.
