Brockton Hospital Administrative Coordinator - Enterostomal Therapy in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director, Quality Resources assesses patient care needs, facilitates interventions for patient care, treatment and education related to enterostomal therapy/skin care issues. Acts as a staff resource for Nursing and other Interdisicplinary Healthcare Team Members in the area of ostomy as well as related skin and wound care issues.

Serves as a consultant to nursing, medical and interdisciplinary healthteam members in the area of enterostomal therapy, skin and wound care; for identified patients, across all age groups from newborn to geriatrics.

This is a full-time 40 hour/ week position

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a clinical resource to nursing staff.

  • Acts as a consultant at unit level for staff development in areas of enterostomal therapy (skin, wound and ostomy care).

  • Maintains appropriate records and documentation of activities related to enterostomal therapy.

  • Collaborates with other healthcare team members regarding individualizing patient care/enterostomal therapy to assessed needs of patient.

  • Consults with nursing and medical staff on issues related to patients with actual or potential skin breakdown.

  • Provides consultation to external agencies and professional organizations as appropriate/indicated.

  • Coordinates the implementation of appropriate care to patients and their families who have enterostomal care issues (ostomy, skin, wound management).

  • Conducts individualized patient needs assessments regarding enterostomal care.

  • Initiates and provides ongoing consultation/evaluation of patient care management for patients with enterostomal needs.

  • Supports nursing staff directly and indirectly by educating patients and families regarding nursing care related to enterostomal therapy.

  • Provides educational programs and/or inservices as requested, for nursing staff and other members of the health care team.

  • Plans and implements individualized patient/family education programs based on assessed needs for enterostomal therapy patients.

  • Consults with nursing staff, facilitates the development and implementation of discharge plans for patients with ostomies.

  • Acts as a consultant to all nursing staff involved in the assessment, planning, guiding, implementing and evaluating nursing practice related to enterostomal therapy.

  • Assesses nursing practice and provides clinical education support as indicated related to enterostomal therapy.

  • Provides guidance to nursing staff regarding patient/family education/care related to enterostomal therapy.

  • Acts as a change agent for introducing new approaches to nursing practice.

  • Participates in QI/PI Teams

  • Establishes, trends and analyzes enterostomal and skin care related monitors.

  • Maintains current clinical knowledge base of skin care and wound care products.

  • Participates in professional organizations and committees.

  • Manages results of customer satisfaction surveys.

  • Confers with medical staff and other hospital managers to discuss selected educational projects and/or procedure changes.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patient, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors.

  • Three to five years as a Board Certified Enterostomal Therapist. Demonstrated ability in clinical skills, communication skills and professional creativity. Experience in teaching/education required.

    Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing with current Massachusetts license and current BLS certification. B.S.N. required. Graduate of an accredited school of Enterostomal Therapy required. Board certified in Enterostomal Therapy required.

  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years experience with experience in teaching/education.

  • Certification/Licensure: Board certified in Enterostomal Therapy required.
