L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates.
L3Harris in Portchester are the maritime industry’s autonomy partner of choice, we are powering the Royal Navy’s adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers. We have delivered more than 100 autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) systems.
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and develop our exceptional teams across multiple UK sites. This is your chance to lead talented professionals in the design, development, and delivery of advanced mechanical systems for the maritime sector, while creating an environment where your teams can grow and excel.

Alongside this, you’ll oversee the delivery of complex mechanical solutions that have real-world impact in one of the most exciting and challenging industries.

What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
Inspiring Leadership: Lead, manage, and support multidisciplinary mechanical engineering teams across multiple UK sites, ensuring a shared vision and cohesive delivery.
Empowering People: Mentor, coach and develop your teams, creating a culture where individuals feel valued and motivated to achieve their best.
Driving Delivery: Oversee the design, development, and integration of complex mechanical systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with exceptional quality.
Strategic Workforce Management: Plan and allocate resources effectively, ensuring your teams are equipped to meet both current and future challenges.
Promoting Innovation: Encourage a forward-thinking approach, driving continuous improvement and adopting new technologies to solve complex engineering challenges.
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
Equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience working on complex engineering projects.
Proven experience in leading and managing mechanical engineering teams, ideally in defense, maritime or similarly complex domains.
A people first leader with a passion for empowering individuals and teams to achieve their potential.
Technical expertise in mechanical engineering, including design, analysis, and systems integration.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and foster collaboration across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Experience with delivering electrical systems in safety-critical or high-reliability environments is highly desirable.
