WSP has identified the nuclear sector as a having a high growth potential and is committed to the sector as a strategic priority. Key to unlocking this growth is the further development of our market position, technical capability, capacity in key areas and track record. This includes strengthening technical paths and redeployment of staff from other sectors to strengthen our existing team.
The successful candidate for this role will be an experienced nuclear sector professional and leader supporting nuclear business and capability development in technical and regulatory services across teams engaged in the nuclear sector on a regional and global basis.
The successful candidate will sit within the Sustainability and Safety Advisory (S&SA) discipline with the Earth & Environment (E&E) business unit and provide key support to a team that will form a vital hub for the accelerated development of capability and driving growth. They will work hand in hand with the Head of Nuclear Regulation and the Permitting and Compliance Team Lead to identify both nuclear and wider opportunities, drive client development and lead and deliver a range of technical services to the nuclear and other industrial sectors. Business development, project management and developing and mentoring junior members of the team will also form an important part of the role.
Working with the Nuclear Sector Lead and Head of Nuclear Regulation, the successful candidate will be responsible for specific elements of technical leadership, development and delivery across the Nuclear business in the UK and globally. They will also help to raise WSP’s profile in the industry and represent WSP at industry events.
Whilst the role will be nuclear focused, flexibility and the aptitude to support the wider Service Line is a must, e.g. across the Permitting and Compliance Team, Responsible Consumption & Production and Policy and Innovation teams. This could involve business development, the preparation of proposals and delivery of technical work, including regulatory / consenting strategies, environmental permit applications, Best Available Technique (BAT) reviews, risk assessments and waste studies/reports.

Lead service development in nuclear technical and other environmental and regulatory services to enable market growth in specific nuclear (and other industry sector) services.
Acting as a Project Manager and/ or Project Director and leading in technical delivery for the Permitting and Compliance team with a focus on growth and development of the nuclear portfolio and capability.
Ensure close working relationships with relevant stakeholders and key resource to share knowledge and develop value propositions to achieve client objectives.
Support with and lead technical delivery, client engagement, strategic opportunity identification and sales growth.
Acting as a positive role model, mentor and internal technical developer for junior members of the team to support their career paths.
Contribute to building stronger relationships with our existing key clients, potential new clients and industry partners so that we are in the best possible competitive position to win strategic opportunities as they come to market.
Providing flexible support and resource, wherever required, across the dynamic Service Line / Permitting and Compliance team to help drive industrial sustainability, meet clients' needs and ensure the team’s work is delivered in an efficient manner.

Sit within the S&SA operational business to support growth of technical nuclear (and other industry sector) capability within the permitting and compliance team with a close working relationship with the Head of Nuclear Regulation and the Nuclear Sector Lead.

Expert technical knowledge of and contaribution to contemporary thinking around the Nuclear Sector.
Demonstrable broad sector knowledge and an excellent understanding of the Nuclear Sector, preferably with some experience of regulation and compliance in other sectors, e.g. other energy sectors, waste, chemicals etc.
The ability to work at a strategic level as well as being ‘hands on’ to support client management and operational delivery.
Proven key client management skills – able to develop/maintain excellent client relationships ensuring repeat business and continually improved client satisfaction.
Flexibility, enthusiasm and commitment, including as required travelling both domestically and internationally to support WSP’s growth ambitions.
The ability to effectively engage and influence various stakeholders to achieve sector and team goals.
The ability to work in complex organisations in a team environment and develop relationships and rapport with external clients and internal colleagues.
