This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Brighton, Michigan region. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. This role's duties will require effectively managing self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, leading while also being a team player, generating innovative ideas, and challenging the status quo. Your responsibilities
Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Respond on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Requirements
5+ years of experience leading accounting departments as a controller
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Solid understanding of Accounting Software Systems
Accounts Receivable (AR) experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Budget Processes
Accounts Payable (AP) experience preferred
General familiarity with Construction Accounting
Adeptness in auditing
Strong familiarity with Accounting Functions
High attention to detail
Vow to meet business deadlines
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the company
Excellent analytical, quantitative and social skills
Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
