The Senior Accountant position is a pivotal role in the Group Benefit Controllers Department within the Controls, Analysis & Reporting organization. This individual will focus on analyzing data and completing accounting to ensure accurate product level financial statements. In addition, this individual will play a critical role in a collaborative team environment to help facilitate the completion of GAAP & STAT reporting actual analysis, actual vs. projections analysis and month-end and quarter-end financial closes; and offer solutions to financial challenges and obstacles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Focus on Group Benefits Life and Vision products; as well as supporting the MetGen entity which includes Pet Insurance and Legal Plans

  • Process manual journal entries and accruals for certain products

  • Perform account reconciliation for certain products.

  • Analysis of financial results including actual vs. projection and actuals vs. actuals; preparation of written analysis and documentation

  • Responsible for GAAP and Statutory monthly/quarterly reporting on financial results, including income statements, balance sheets, and earnings by source timely and accurately.

  • Legal Entity Responsibilities including supporting MLIC, Versant, MetGen

  • Support the Statutory close process and legal entity requirements; review and analysis, actual vs. projection, GAAP vs. STAT, analytics, surveys.

  • Responsible for providing support and communication to management.

  • Partner with various units across the enterprise to ensure accuracy of financial statements.

  • Coordinate auditor selection requests, assist with state exams and complete ad-hoc projects.

  • Document existing processes and procedures for various Group products

  • Perform 10K/Q disclosure preparation and reconciliation.

  • Complete Cash Flow reconciliation and review of multiple legal entities for quarterly sign-off

  • Facilitate team meetings and coordinate monthly deliverables and projects.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Five plus years’ financial experience in a public or private company environment

  • Knowledge of GAAP & Statutory accounting principles, concepts, and practices

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting and analysis.

  • Strong PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft ledger/HFM system.

  • Demonstrated experience working with management and internal partners.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
