SOMERSET COUNTY YMCA JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Deck Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function of this position is to assist Aquatics Management with on-deck member engagement, supervision, and training of the Lifeguard staff. An additional key responsibility includes acting as the leader/first responder in the event of a medical, rescue or exposure emergency, either accidental or job-related in the Aquatics
Area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for serving as on-deck supervisor of Lifeguards and/or Aquatic programs and activities either in conjunction with, or in the absence of Aquatics Management.
Responsible for leading Aquatics emergency response team in the event of a medical, rescue or exposure emergency.
Responsible for serving as on-deck point of contact for members and program participants and providing high-quality member engagement and a safety.
Assists with conducting Lifeguard orientation, in-service and on-the-job training.
Responsible for adhering to Somerset County YMCA quality standards, YMCA Aquatic safety standards and standards and guidelines set forth by the American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association in accordance with Somerset County YMCA policies and procedures.
Monitors pool chemical readings every two hours. Conducts daily pool equipment, slide and water feature inspections. Monitors pool filtration equipment in the absence of the Pool Technician or Aquatics Management (W/CPO Certification). Reports defects, chemical imbalances, equipment operation malfunctions and any other safety related matters to Aquatics Management.
Responsible for opening and closing the pool(s) and other natatoriums with Lifeguard assistance.
Responsible for assigning and implementing daily Lifeguard rotation schedule.
Responsible for maintaining a clean pool environment to include cleaning all decks, equipment, stainless steel, and slides with the assistance of the Lifeguards.
Responsible for serving as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor as assigned by Aquatics Management.
Responsible to maintain all required certifications.
Responsible for attending trainings, seminars and meetings as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age of 18
Minimum of two full years as a Lifeguard, preferably in a multiple-pool and/or water recreational facility
Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and obtain Emergency Oxygen (within 30
days).
Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard or equivalent
Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
Must demonstrate Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
Certification as a Lifeguard Instructor preferred.
