The Technology Infrastructure and Service Delivery Team delivers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank. Supporting 2 Data Centers, 1 Service Desk, 14,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month. We deliver innovative and compelling technology solutions to enhance the internal customer experience, enabling our business partners to deliver.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Professional with proven expertise supporting and administering network and security tools to join our team. As a Firewall Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, support, and optimization of Check Point firewall solutions and related technologies. Your role will involve working closely with our internal clients to understand their requirements, assess their network security needs and concerns, and provide effective solutions using Check Point firewall and related products.
Responsibilities
Responsible for working with the Scrum Master, team members, management, and other stakeholders to ensure objectives are met in an Agile delivery environment.
Collaborate with clients to understand their network security requirements, align recommended solutions to organizational standards, and achieve desired objectives.
Deploy, support, and optimize Check Point firewall solutions, with emphasis on Virtual System Extension (VSX) and Maestro technology.
Configure and optimize Check Point firewalls, including policies, rules, and access controls.
Perform installations, upgrades, and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Conduct troubleshooting and issue resolution for firewall-related incidents, including analyzing logs and packet captures, and analyzing different rule types.
Monitor network traffic and security alerts to identify and mitigate potential threats or vulnerabilities.
Develop and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate firewall solutions with other network and security components.
Provide technical support and guidance to fellow engineers and assist in mutual professional development, learning, and growth opportunities.
Participate in vendor and product lifecycle management, business continuity planning, capacity planning, audit /compliance activities, and disaster recovery exercises.
Technical Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of Check Point firewall products, including Check Point Security Gateway, SmartConsole, and Management Server highly desirable.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VPN, NAT, IPSec, encryption standards, ports, and protocols.
In depth understanding of routers, switches, firewalls, WAF’s, WAAP’s and intrusion prevention Systems (IPS).
Strong knowledge and proven track record of network administration and engineering supporting mission critical applications servicing large enterprise deployments.
Understanding of security principles and frameworks including NIST 800-53, CIS 20 Critical Security Controls, and the FFIEC audit standards
Ability to read, decrypt and help operational team members troubleshoot Wireshark, Fiddler, and/or other packet capture tools.
Ability to translate highly complex technical information for non or less technical audiences.
Inquisitive and questioning nature with the goal of collaborating to find solutions.
Ability to easily adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
Relevant certifications such as Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) and Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) are preferred.
Excellent documentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Experience and Education Required:
Combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture
Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in a technical engineering position involving operational upkeep, optimization, and feature expansion of an existing application security or delivery deployment in a highly complex enterprise environment.
Demonstrated experience with and proficiency with configuring, deploying, supporting, and maintaining Check Point firewalls, including Security Gateways and Management Servers, or adjacent and relevant technologies.
Relevant Technology or Security certification (CCA, CCP, CCE, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, etc), Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA), and Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE) are preferred.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $134,974.44 - $224,957.40 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
