Job Summary and Qualifications
The Cost Analyst II will be responsible for the Cost Accounting reconciliation process related to designated hospitals. This position reports to the Manager of Decision Support for HCA. The Cost Analyst II will maintain and assist with standardization, implementation of changes to methodologies, and technological upgrades. Policy, controls, oversight, and data integrity are key responsibilities.
The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to establish effective working relationships and manage multiple priorities. Ability to gain knowledge of working with data from various sources including but not limited to Cost Accounting System, Revenue Cycle, Managed Care, General Ledger, Payroll, Physician Practice, Patient Accounting, and Supply Chain.
Responsibilities:
Regular responsibilities include monthly and annual reconciliation and standardized maintenance of Cost Accounting System
Support tasks related to technology upgrades, including testing of new versions and documenting findings
Ensures the integrity of the data is intact
Must understand the details and intricacies of the Cost Accounting System
Maintains costing methodologies and employs and encourages best practices across the company
Understanding Cost Accounting concepts such as Relative Value Units (RVUs), Microcosting, and Overhead Allocation Methods
Maintain relationship with Controllers, Department Heads, and IT&S
Assist with testing and maintenance related to implementations of new methodologies and functionality, including addition of non-hospital entities (i.e. ambulatory services, physician practices)
Ability to mentor and support Cost Analysts
Ability to understand ongoing trends in healthcare and their potential impact to our department and/or HCA in general, and be proactive in making recommendations as appropriate
Annually setting up the department structure in the Cost Accounting database, loading all direct and overhead cost models for the upcoming fiscal year
Ability to learn HCA’s General Ledger, Patient Accounting and Revenue Cycle and other systems as needed
Performing other special projects as needed
Requirements:
Limited Business Travel required
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related Healthcare field required
3 year of healthcare Decision Support/Cost Accounting experience in multi-state healthcare environment preferred
Results oriented with ability to manage to deadlines
Ability to troubleshoot patient, GL, and costing data or other issues as they arise
Ability to research, understand, and explain healthcare services volume, utilization, cost, reimbursement, and variances within the Cost Accounting System
