BRENHAM - CITY OF Wastewater Construction Maintenance Worker in BRENHAM, Texas
Summary
- Performs various duties and operates various equipment involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city sewer system components.
- When needed assist crews with new construction or repairs to the Water Distribution system.
Residency Requirement:
- Employees who are likely to be called to work in cases of emergency may be required to reside within reasonable response commuting ranges of their places of work. A reasonable response time to an emergency is thirty (30) minutes.
- Residency which allows response time to a City emergency of thirty (30) minutes MUST be established with 90 days of hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Responds to and resolves various sewer line problems, including fixing and removing line stoppages
- Assists in the construction of sewer system components, including laying sewer lines, installing sewer taps, manholes, and cleanouts
- Assists in the maintenance of sewer system components, including videoing sewer mains, jetting sewer mains, and smoke testing sewer mains
- Operates various equipment, including jet machine, backhoe, crane, power saw, and water pumps
- Cleans and maintains vehicles, equipment, yard, and shop
- Serves on call duty with water department to respond to after-hours customer water or sewer

Education and/or Experience
High school graduation or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge Of
Standard office practices and procedures.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
Communicate effectively
Operate equipment and tools used in maintaining and repairing water and sewer lines
Read and understand manuals, ArcGIS mapping, policies, and other documents.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Texas driver's license. Wastewater D or Class 1 license within first 180 days of hire. All licenses acquired through TCEQ that are above the minimum requirement for this position will receive a determined percent raise upon receiving new license.

The employee must be able to see clearly, with or without vision correction, in close situations, at a distance, and peripherally, and be able to adjust focus.
