HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION Motor Vehicle Technician II in Brenham, Texas
Job/Position DescriptionPerforms routine (journey-level) motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. Work involves repairing or replacing worn or broken parts; performing preventive maintenance activities; and servicing motor vehicle equipment and related gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine powered equipment. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Other duties as assigned.Essential Job FunctionsExchanges, rebuilds, and overhauls motors, transmissions, differentials, carburetors, and other motor vehicle components and systems.Checks and repairs electrical and cooling systems.Performs oil and filter changes, transmission service, brake and suspension repair, tire installation and repair, wheel alignments, air conditioning diagnosis and repair, state vehicle inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.Performs minor engine tune-ups and makes required adjustments on motor vehiclesand#146; motors and engines.Tests motors and engines for satisfactory performance.Installs after-market accessories and equipment.Maintains records of work performed and parts used.Operates electronic or computerized diagnostic equipment and other specialized tools and equipment using computer-based technical manuals to identify, isolate, adjust, and verify malfunctions and system and component failures.Assists in performing inventories of parts and equipment.May maintain and repair heavy construction equipment.Performs related work as assigned.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust possess valid Texas driverand#146;s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.Knowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of motor vehicle maintenance, repair techniques, and safety practices and principles.Skill in the use of tools and equipment.Ability to follow instructions, to locate and diagnose defective mechanical operations, and to communicate effectively.Initial Screening Criteria-Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by technical courses in motor vehicle maintenance and repair, is generally preferred. -Experienced in motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. -Experience and education may be substituted for one another.Additional InformationApplicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities.Males between the ages of 18 and#150; 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
