Production Work Leader (Shipyard Trades) Position Summary: Life Cycle Engineering is currently seeking individuals to support the Production Department (Code 900) for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY&IMF) Guam Detachment (PDG) as Production Work Leader in Apra Harbor, Guam. As a Work Leader, you will be involved with waterfront project team during planning and execution phase providing oversite for sailors while instructing, mentoring and development of personnel assigned to plan and execute submarine and other USN vessel maintenance in the following system Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Combat Systems. Seeking the following trades skills: Shipfitter, Welder, Sheetmetal Mechanic, Machinist, Marine Machinery Mechanic, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Pipefitter, Insulator Production Mechanics, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Rigger, Painter, Shipwright, Fabric Worker, Plastic Fabricator This is a 6-month rotation assignment with an option to extend. Travel allowance to Guam covers all travel related expenses per Navy travel regulations requirements. Clearance Requirement: Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DOD Secret security clearance. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Completes production progress reviews, plans and schedules Production work assignments. Takes corrective action on production delays or anticipated delays. Reviews assigned Technical Work Document (TWD) (e.g., TGIs, Job Orders (JO), etc.), plans and specifications, and work and worker assignments Ensures that necessary tools, equipment and materials to do the job are available when required; assist in resolving any problems that may arise such as ambiguous aspects of the TWD and associated specifications/plans, unattainable completion dates, substitution of materials, additional Client, etc. Ensures plans, blueprints, tools are available, and required material is available from the supply department. Assures there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy. Oversees that work is in progress and in compliance with manager's instructions on work sequence procedures, methods, and deadlines. Obtains needed information or decisions from the manager on problems that come up during the work. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall works operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Assures safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used.). Participates in discussions to obtain information on nature of work projects, availability dates of ships, materials, and engineering plans to be required, and changes made on preliminary plans and estimates. Provides information to manager on shop facilities and materials available to compete production assignments. Provides input on estimates of physical progress of work reports. Monitors work progress through visits to work sites and daily work progress reports. Evaluates operations to ensure trades work is completed according to schedules and specifications Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education, Skills, and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. At least 10 years production experience in a specific trade which should include the operation, test, maintenance and repair of naval ships or equivalent military training and/or experience within a public or private shipyard environment. General knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural or combat systems.
